Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Week 15

Green, Yellow & White

I was going through my blocks and realized I'm a little shy on yellow, prob'ly because I've never been a huge fan of that color.  Not sure why.  Maybe it's because I don't look good in yellow.  I don't think I have a speck of it in my wardrobe and I don't have anything decor-wise that's yellow, except for a few quilts that happen to have a little bit in them.

Plus it reminds me of things like jaundice.

When I'm sewing, I tend to use yellow for literal applications.  Like when I make a quilt with a house in the design, I want it to look like someone's home, so I'll use yellow to make it look like the lights are on ...

Hmmm, maybe I SHOULD wear more yellow!  tee hee

#41 - Friendship Star

Ok, WHOA!  The yellow seems a bit TOO yellow here.  (Although my amateur photoshopping may have something to do with the exaggerated flouresence here.)

I'm hoping it'll look ok when mixed in with all the other blocks.

#50 - Honey's Choice

This turned out to be such a sweet little block!  I love the little pinwheels.

I'm just wondering if maybe I shoulda used a color for the middle square - like red or pink ...

Again gorgous blocks! I'm not a yellow girl too perhaps because it's my brother's favorite color and I always think of yellow as his color. So , no yellow for me;-)
I love it in your blocks and I think it will play well with your other blocks. Oh, I I like the white middle square, don't change it.

I learned quilting back in high school from my great grandmother. I could have taught myself... sure, or taken a class, but I decided it would be special if it was something handed down from another generation.

Funny thing... Grandma always said to NEVER used yellow in a quilt. She said it would be too much. Isn't a good color.

I completely disagree. Maybe she thought so because the yellows of the 60s, 70s and 80s were terrible yellows, but I just love yellow in quilts and have done it a number of times!

Good for you for throwing some yellow in there. I think yellow makes everything happy! :)

I'm not a yellow fan either, but I LOVE Honey's Choice. It looks more like a ButterCream than a "Yellow".

When I bought a house the master bedroom was painted a butter cream and I thought it was going to be the first thing I painted. I decided to leave it to see if I could like it.....and I totally did. I miss it now in our new house. :-) Like Babychaser said, it makes things happy.

Yep, I LOVE Honey's Choice, too! I'm not a big yellow fan either. I'm way picky about the shade. I like what Debbie said about "Buttercream". Makes me think of cupcakes! :) All of your blocks are going to be so beautiful together!

I've just bought the book - but if I do embark on the blocks, I think it will be in simialer colours to those shown on the cover of the book, as I have lots of fabrics in those colours. I'm not a great fan of yellow - except for daffodils in the spring!

I love yellow. I saw the most beautiful wattle in bloom on the weekend and thought to myself: How could anyone not like yellow?

Nice blocks anyhow :)

The yellows you've used are beautiful and will look wonderful in your quilt. I love using yellow in quilts (where it suits) - always adds something to the overall look. Could be because I also enjoy seeing the wattle in bloom (love springtime in Aus).

You always make me laugh. The lights are on but....

Isn't it funny how we always second guess our piecing? Your blocks are fab...as always!!!

I never wear yellow either...it makes me look sick :) I do love a splash of yellow here and there in quilts though. It IS Spring here in Australia...my nose is starting to twitch already. I love your new blocks!
