fat quarter style book review ... & a giveaway, of course

Oh my goodness!  I'm so sorry for my long silence, but we were away on a little (16 day) holiday.  For past vacations I always pre-wrote stuff, but I just didn't have the time.  Please forgive me.

Now I love my sister and all, but why-oh-why does she have to live in Iowa?  Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Iowa.  It's it's a lovely place.  And because I live in an extremely dry climate, my skin was loving the humidity.  (My hands have since returned to their usual alligator-like appearance.)  But it's just not ... you know, Paris or Australia or ... Chicago!!!

I have so much to say ...

Actually.  Hold that thought.

Even though I have a few fun stories and more sewing stuff to share, I really should stay focused on today's post, which is Fat Quarter Shop's new book Fat Quarter Style

If you either have a ton of FQs in your stash that are just begging to be used OR need an excuse to buy that new FQ bundle, this is definitely a must-have book for your quilting library.  It's chalk-a-block (or is it supposed to be chalker-block, or chock-something ... isn't it annoying when you try to spell something for the first time - something that you've heard and said your whole life - and you no idea if you've got it right?) FULL of quick, easy and fun quilts.

I'm at the tail end of this book tour so in case you missed the other reviews and samples, check them out! :)

August 4: Paula of The Sassy Quilter
August 6: Kelly of My Quilt Infatuation
August 8: Karin of Leigh Laurel Studios
August 11: Caroline of Sew Can She
August 13: Jana of Jana Machado
August 15: Amy of Stitchery Dickory Dock
August 18: Lee of Freshly Pieced
August 20: Holly of Bijou Lovely
August 22: Ashley of Film in The Fridge
August 25: Erin of Why Not Sew?
August 29: Amy of Diary of A Quilter

Here's mine.

Now in the interest of full disclosure, although I have no shortage of FQs in my stash, all my "good fabric" is still in boxes.  My scraps, however, are conveniently sorted by colour in plastic bins.  Naturally I made a bee-line to the pinks.  I also just finished a quilt top using a linen taupe and had a nice large scrap still on my sewing table.  I thought it would be fun to do a reverse-value sample from the one shown in the book so I made my "plume" darker than my prints rather than lighter.

So.  I have a copy of Fat Quarter Style here that needs a good home.  If you'd like a chance to be that home, please leave me a comment confessing if you have FQs you need to use up or just want an excuse to buy more for your stash. :)

This giveaway closes on Monday, Sept. 1st and is open to all.  Good luck!

And I promise to be back soon with a few vacation stories that hopefully aren't exceedingly boring, some sewing stuff (including an update on the woefully neglected hexagon quilt) ... and NO talk about unpacking!  LOL!

I like your darker plume. I also LOVE the pattern on the cover!! I have some fat quarters that I'm planning on using for a quilt for my son, so I would definitely have to buy some new fabric because this quilt would be for me. ;)

I have sooooo many fat quarters to use but it doesn't stop me from picking up more! Hope you and the family had a wonderful time in Iowa and the native 'United Statians' were nice to you all (channeling your daughter).

I admit I have fat quarters to use up but.....I will need more to replace those when I use them. Right?

And YOU KNOW Fat Quarters are a Quilters' very Best Friend!! Always to the rescue!!
August 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKaren
Yes, I do have a number of FQ stacks that are begging to be used. I also have several multi-yard stacks that are begging to be made into their intended purpose - king-sized quilts to send off to be long-armed. I would love to use this book and simply make more blocks to create king-sized tops.
Thanks for the info and an opportunity to win!

P.S. Good luck on getting the rest of your fabric unpacked...
Just finished my sewing room and wouldn't you know it, I have shelf space that requires some new fat quarters. Yeah to more space!!!

WOW! A sixteen day vacation?! I don't think I've ever had one, not even on our honeymoon. Definitely feel free to tell us what it's like.

The answer to your query is yes, and yes. I have tons of fat quarters, some in really nicely coordinated bundles even, but always welcome the opportunity to add more to the mix. Sounds like this book might be just what I need to both use what I have and feel guilt free for adding more.

I definitely have fat quarters that I need to use but there is always room for more. But seriously, where were you in Iowa. Jim and I both grew up in Clarion, Iowa north of Ames. His parents grew up in that area mine were both from Waterloo and we both have loads of friends and relatives sprinkled around the state. We do not go there in the summer!! Anyway, glad to have you back, house getting settled?
