Auction 15 - Sewing Book

Before I introduce today's item, I'd like to address a few comments I received the other day suggesting I sell my things on eBay instead of my blog.  In response, I just want to say that I weighed my options and decided to use my blog as an auction platform for two simple but very important reasons:  to make my sale exclusive to my wonderful and lovely readers and because - call me silly - but I feel better knowing that the things I've made are going to people I'm connected with somehow.  I may not have met you or even corresponded with you before.  You may not have ever commented on my blog.  But if you visit me here and read my silly stories and enjoy my pictures and are hopefully inspired by the things I do here, then we are connected and means something to me.

Selling my things on eBay had many advantages for me.  And I considered them.  But they did not outweigh the importance of honouring my little community here.  I have no plans to turn my blog into an auction house.  But I have another 8 or 10 more items to sell.  And then I need to take a break while we move.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I'm so far beyond flattered by the generosity and support you've given me over the past few weeks.  Honestly, I can't even believe my eyes sometimes.  I'm deeply grateful.  Thank you.  Thank you to every single one of you who let me know that my blog means something to you by coming here.  You don't need to participate in my auction.  You don't even need to say hi.  (And I always feel terrible when I don't reply - which is far too often, but just know that I read every single comment ... and I do reply to you in my head, if not with my keyboard.)  But I know you come here.  And I think that's lovely.  I don't take your time for granted.  I know there are many wonderful blogs out there and your choice to come here is ... very special to me.  And it makes me happy. :)  Thank you.

Because this little cutie holds pins, needles and scissors, I thought it was fair to call it a sewing book rather than just a needlebook.

It measures 3 1/2" x 4".  The pins and needles as shown are included.

BUT THE SCISSORS ARE NOT INCLUDED!  I need to make sure you know that.  (I was just too lazy to take new photos!  LOL!)

This auction ends July 2nd at 6:00 pm MST.  Shipping is extra and I'll send a PayPal invoice to the winning bidder.

This is so cute!

P.S. It's your blog and it's up to you what you do with it. Personally, I love seeing all these gorgeous things again, even if I'm not bidding in the auction. I'm also looking forward to seeing photos of your new house and spotting all the handmade goodness in it!

Thank you for sharing your comments at the beginning of this post. It was very well said and I appreciate you and your blog. It's one of the very few that I follow and I have enjoyed going back through the archives and being inspired and yes, even laughing at some of your adventures.
Thank you for responding in a quiet and peaceful, yet clear way. I really appreciate that. I know it's hard to put yourself out there heart and soul. Someone will always have a critique or thought not understanding you at all. Your response was lovely.
Wishing you a lovely and blessed day.

I love your blog and can hardly wait each day to read and just admire the pictures. I would so love to have one of your items because it would mean so much to me, but financially the bids have been way out of my range. Please know that I admire and respect your talent! Keep it up and don't change a thing!

Kristyne, when I saw those comments about your blog, I was so
very irritated and meant to respond to those people. I was out of town and just didn't get to it before comments were turned off. I agree with all those comments above: we love your blog and all your wonderful creations. And I think your response was so classy, which just supports what we already think of you. Keep doing what you're doing -- we, the faithful, are right there behind you :) take care!

Oh, how I wish I could buy this! It's out of my budget, but it's the most previously little needlebook! I looooove it!!!

Oh my heart! This is one of my favorites! I'm so inspired by your work Kristyne!

I'm agreeing with all the above - look forward to your blog to see what you are making. Love all your beautiful things and your comments toward the negativity was great! Wish I could afford to buy something too, but nice to know we all love your lovely needle arts! Keep them, coming!

I think it's a wonderful idea, too! It's fun to live along with your pre-move clean out, and it's fun to see all those lovely things again (and some for the first time).

Sadly I can't afford to bid on anything right now (new baby coming!), but I love seeing all these sweet items anyway. I've been a reader for a couple years and I just can't get enough of your work. I love how beautiful, delicate, and feminine the items are. I am in awe over how you are able to combine so many different features (the lace, embroidery, buttons, fabric, etc) into one piece without it looking cluttered or busy - just perfect.

beautiful as always. not sure why 'trolls' hang around here to post negative stuff but they hit many blogs. personally, i think it is just very unhappy people who post stuff like that. just sayin'.....

Hello! I've been waiting for THIS! (and I'm so sorry about the other comments I had missed from others.) I am so thankful you are posting here and giving us a chance to bid on something lovely from you! Love your stuff!!! And I've been holding out on all the other great auctions because I really want a sewing book! So - I bid 50.00. :O)

I also appreciated your sweet explanation, Kristyne. I did not see any comments from others (usually just looking for price to see if I should/could bid) but your words were touching, heartfelt, and exactly why so many of us are followers. I follow you because I love your style and, truth be told, I copy it to a point. I have ordered fabric like yours from all over the world. I have ordered cotton tape from your recommended vendor on Etsy. I pay attention to your methods and try to learn. I believe that will help me develop my both my skill and my preferred style. Now to this beauty, I LOVE it and remember seeing it when first made and posted. I wanted it or wanted to make one like it. I have already acquired one piece via this "auction" so will try my hand at making a sewing book and this one will be my inspiration. I just want you to know that you do more than provide us with pretty things - you teach and inspire us as well and that is your greatest gift of all!
June 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterVicki
Oh my heart flipped! This is my absolute favourite - bidding beyond me right now, but felt I had to comment (first time) and say hello from the UK. Adore the blog, inspirational and utter perfection! And as Vicki says you both teach and inspire - you sure have enabled me to create some pretty things too :) Keep up the good work Kristyne and hope the move goes really smoothly.

Absolutely adorable.
So glad about your decision. I completely agree with you regarding your choice to sell on your blog and not on Ebay. There are enough people there and plenty of clutter for them.
Your creations are special.
I am so glad I found you <3

Well said, kristyne! Its your blog, they're your items and I'm so very glad you decided to give those of us who craft as well and can appreciate the time and love that went into each and every item.

I also agree 100% with Lisa E's post :)

Xoxo ~Lori

Yours is one of my favorite blogs! I love the beautiful things you make.
June 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDiane Mitchell
I totally agree with Vicki especially, that is exactly what I would like to say,it is your blog, you are sharing your lovelies with friends. There are some really hateful people out there, just delete their posts, you owe no one any explanation. We love you and your wonderful work,so be it. So a dry spell is coming with your move? Can you post pictures of your new home/spaces? Surely a very exciting time for you and your family. I am very happy for you!
June 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBonnie Nyquist
Ebay is not the place for your beautiful creations they belong here on your blog. I am always inspired to create when I see your lovely things. Thank you.
June 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSue Casey
You response to the negative comments was as sweet and lovely as the items you make. I now see where these lovely pieces come from--straight from you heart! Keep on blogging and demonstrating to us how to make this world a better place both from your attitude and your work.
June 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBetty Woodlee
I am continually fascinated as I read blogs that people think they can tell bloggers what to write and how they should operate their websites! Your response was elegant and understated just as your lovely work is. So very excited to see the new digs. I would like to bid $55 for your wonderful book.
June 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKerry Linklater
I LOVE your blog and LOVE your needlework. Whatever you make I love and wish I could stitch like you do....ignore the negative comments, as I'm very sure they are just jealous.
Your blog, your ideas.
Besides you are fun and charming!
June 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBarbie B
I've always admired this sewing book. I appreciate what you are doing on your website. Why shouldn't it be under your control?

When a small amount of people are irritated, it is irritating to the rest of us. :P They should find something positive to do with their time.

I bid $60.

I love your blog, and seeing all the pretty things, but it is so not my style. Your craftsmanship is incredible and everything you make is the perfect expression of your aesthetic values. I find that so inspiring because so often blogs become echo chambers where everyone presents endless variations upon the same project and yours is above the fray. It reminds me to keep true to my inner eye.
June 27, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSara A.
A gracious response from a gracious lady. Love Pretty By Hand and love you, too, K! *hugs*
I don't think I've ever commented on your blog before but I want you to know that I started following a couple of years ago. I loved it so much I went right back to the beginning and have read very single one of your posts. I adore your blog and all your beautiful makings and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we get a tour of your beautiful new home. I feel lucky not to have seen any negative comments as I've been away for a few days. I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to buy one of your beautiful creations, it means so much more than a faceless eBay purchase. Sorry that some people just don't seem to get that idea. X

This is fan-friggin-tastic!!!! I am completely in love with your sewing book! Everything you make is meticulous and inspiring! I would so enjoy that sewing book the rest of my life!
