The Blue Ballerina

Finished!

This quilt is by far the easiest one I've ever made (if you don't count the embroidery).

Simple 5 1/2" squares.

And the most basic of topstitching.

I wanted the fabric to play the starring role and I could not be happier with this scrappy-looking quilt that has a vintage feel, even though the fabrics are brand new and all from one collection.

I am really happy with the single embroidered blue ballerina.  (Here it is compared to the original pink version which appears on the cover of my book.)

I hope my girlfriend's daughter & granddaughter will love using it as much as I did making it.

My favourite way to present a quilt is to roll it up like a sleeping bag with the backing showing (so the patchwork is a surprise).

And then I just tie it with a ribbon (or scrap strip of fabric, if I have any binding left over).

Babies really are the best reasons for making quilts. :)

The fabrics are soooo pretty, no wonder you opted for simplicity! What line are they? And I love the single ballerina detail, such a lovely touch. Chrissie x PS I'm starting a stitch-along-quilt-along of your S is for Stitch quilt with two friends here in the UK!

Beautiful! The patchwork colors and design all play together wonderfully and your embroidery is dainty and precious. Great job Kristyne.
What a beautiful quilt. Love the vintage feel. The colors are just so pretty and soothing. Your work is beautiful, too. The little ballerina snuck in there makes the statement your wanted, but as you stated, doesn't take over. It's the perfect gift.

Love the fabrics. Would you share what collection that is (it looks like Tilda, but what do I know?)? Thank you.

Not only are babies the best reasons to make quilts but they are great ways to get beautiful quilts from Kristyne. 😉

It is so pretty, so vintage-y. Did you use a charm pack or cut your own? The little ballerina definitely takes it from beautiful to extra special.

I have recently purchased your book and love all of the hand embroidery. The Ballerina Tu-Tu came in handy for some little girls that were going to a really big dance competition. I used their favorite colors and then put the name of the competition and the year. Framed them with batting to give them an extra touch.
It looks like maybe you tacked your lightest color down? If not, how did you get them to stay so close together?
I so love your work and have enjoyed finding you and your blog.

Your quilt is sweet and simple. The ballerina block is like adding just the right touch of surprise!

I've been reading back through your posts as I begin my Daisy Sampler. I think some of the stitches are going to be a new learning curve for me. I am going to try the Colonial Knot.

By the way, I know that you finished all of the letters on your sampler. Have you added piecing, a border, or framed yours yet or is it just waiting for time and inspiration?
