Farmer's wife Quilt Along Week 41

Before I get to today's fun, I need to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who commented on my colonoscopy post last week.  I was a little apprehensive about your response.  I'm so happy & proud to say all feedback was 100% positive.

I mean, this blog's primary content is about making pretty things and fabrics and sewing.  I'm sure you weren't EXPECTING to read something like that.  And I never DREAMED I'd be sharing it either!  But writing about my experience really helped me look for the funny instead of stressing (especially when staring at "the closet!!!").

And if I've helped someone - just one person - find the courage to get one done too, that really is the best thank you of all.

Ok.  Back to the pretty.

Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue & White

The colors in this week's blocks make me soooo happy!

#33 Farmer's Puzzle

I had the same problem here as I did with this block looking like a notorious WWII symbol ... only worse!

So I did played around and came up with this pretty alternative.

I really like how it turned out, even though it's practically unrecognizable from the original.  Sorta pinwheel-esque / Union Jack-ish / asterisk-ey.  Reminds me of THIS cutie little project ... which has been on my "to do list" ever since I first saw it.  Thanks, Pam. ;)

#63 Ozark Maple Leaves

The original block has 2 leaves.  I fooled around with this one too but instead of the 4 leaves I was going for ...

... I ended up with 4 arrows, according to my 8 year old.  I have to agree with her.  Oh well, still pretty.

And did you notice I used the SAME prints in the SAME colors for BOTH blocks?  Must be spring fever ... even though it's going to snow all day today ...

These blocks are so yummy. I like that you've changed the design (really, YOU changed a pattern?;-) because the first one remindes me of spider legs (and with spiders I've always think of the spiders in LOTR and HP). And your second on turned out as the most beautiful sign I've ever seen (imagine that as a street sign). Greet job!

Your blocks are pretty, as always. I'm one of the weird people who actually likes the block as shown in the book - it reminds me of a bow on a fancy gift.

As always, BEAUTIFUL! I love 'em all. I do see the arrows after you 'suggested' that's what the look like! ;p Silly 8 yr old. ;p

Aha!!! so it wasnt just me that saw what we saw. I disliked it so much it went in the scrap bin after I saw what I had made. Thanks for the creative uplifting way you delt with it by changing the block. You are soooo creative. I hope I can recreate it to a more pallatable visual for my quilt, as I am making a red and white FWQ. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration. Linda in Gnawbone,Indiana

Your version of the farmer's puzzle block is definitely better than the one in the book! Love the colors - so spring like!

Lovely blocks. Love the arrows you created on that one block.

Just love what you do with the blocks, the colors, the twists you create. :D

I love the four colors together. Probably my favorite combinations so far! Your quilt is going to be fantastic!

Kristyne, I really like the fact that you change the blocks to suit yourself. After all, it is YOUR quilt, isn't it?
I will feel more free to do the same thing myself now. Patterns don't have to be sacred, do they?

So delicious! I'm drooling.

I love what you've done with these blocks and I thought the same when I first saw that farmers puzzle block. I also like white print you're using which I initially thought was a solid white. Very pretty:-)

And, I agree. Colonoscopy=easypeasy. :)

Yes. I also had pause with a couple of block "designs" my son used to call it the "ugly spider." Indeed! I think your arrows are perfect for a busy mom going ever which way.

I just came across this post today. I love what you did with "that" block. I thought I was the only one who had problems with those two blocks. It's one of the reasons I haven't started this quilt yet. I can't bring myself to make a quilt with those two blocks in it. I love your fabrics, too. I'm looking at this quilt in a new way now...

I love the color green with yellow being a close second. I own the book, "S is for Stitch," and love the simple, yet elegant designs.
