hand quilting the curves

Hand quilting.  I've talked about it before. 

But I decided to hand quilt this little project for a few reasons:  it's small, I know it will enhance the embroidery, and most importantly ... THE OLYMPICS ARE ON!!!  I'm quite happy to stitch away as I watch my favourite figure skating pair Tessa and Scott float across the ice.  And cheer on the Dufour-Laporte sisters as they make it to the podium.   I'd never even heard of those awesome girls from Quebec before yesterday, and I haven't got the.slightest.clue about snowboarding.  But that doesn't stop me from getting excited about it and feeling very proud of my country's athletes! 

National pride doesn't prevent me from marveling at all the athletes from around the world, though.  Their dedication, sacrifice, training and skill amaze me.  I love how the world comes together for the Olympics. :)

Back to quilting.

I know my hand quilting won't win any gold medals.  I'm not too fussed about making sure my stitches are perfectly even and consistent.  But I'm ok with that.  It's more about the finished look than the closeup inspection.  A girl's gotta pick her battles, right?

such beautiful delicate looking work - it is beautiful - I think a lot of us are doing hand work while the Olympics are on aren't we. Sometimes the people I want to get the medals are not from the US but others - it all depends on the athlete doesn't it - I am just in awe of some of these people

Your stitching is a thing of beauty! It reay puts that finishing touch on your embroidery stitches,which are awesome! I'm hoping to enter my first two quilts in a quilt show this year at the age of 62. I entered some cross stitch some years ago and was hurt about the comments that related to the frame, not my work, so I never entered again.

Your work is beautiful and needs to be shared - not only your quilting but the embroidery, too!

I love your project so far! I'm really enjoying the Olympics and have become addicted to the snowboarding and freestyle skiing events - I'm in complete awe of all of them! Just wish I could work out a way to watch and sew at the same time rather than having my sewing in my lap and not daring to take my eyes off the screen!

I LOVE the olympics. I have accomplished a lot, mostly crocheting around flannel blankies for my brand new grandson, watching ALL the events. I can't help but cheer for all of the participants, especially when they are so thrilled with their accomplishments and so gracious. It really warms my heart!

It's kind of funny reading about Olympic posts and national pride from people in the Northern Hemisphere. Being Australian most of us don't pay much more than a passing glance at the tv during the winter games, but of course it's on two channels all day. Only if an Aussie wins a medal do we hear about how great we are at winter sports. You guys deserve to be all kind of proud of your athletes at these games. It's just a novelty for us!
