COSMO painted embroidery hoops

It's no secret that I love COSMO embroidery floss.  But today I want to share with you a new product by COSMO - these beautiful painted cypress wood embroidery hoops.  They're so pretty!  Make It Yourself magazine features them in the Wish List of their Spring/Summer 2016 issue (on newstands today).

The purple hoop inspired me to stitch up a sweet sprig of lavender.  Funny thing, though.  When I was finished the embroidery, I suddenly remembered a conversation I had - literally a week ago - with a friend about how much I love the colour combination of aqua and lavender.  So I switched the hoop and ... voila!

(The beautiful lace print fabric is from "Centenary Collection 21" by Yoko Saito for Lecien.)

I wanted to add a bow somewhere to my embroiderey piece in the.worst.way.  I auditioned both aqua AND purple ones.  Tried many positions, too ... above the word, below the word, on the flower, on the metal closure of the hoop ... but my daughters are doing their best to "modernize" me and convinced me that simple is better.  So I settled for having a bow in the photo instead.  A happy compromise. ;)

Is it weird to say navy? I love navy for clothing, home decor, quilts etc! It's such a classic color and so many colors complement it well.

Yellow is my favorite, sunshine! It's featuring heavily in my Splendid Sampler quilt, and my backing will be yellow, too. It used to be my least favorite color, but now I really like it, in combination with pink and green, even. And I'm hoping it will bring a little bit of sunshine into our (future) north facing bedroom.

So funny! I hadn't read your previous post before writing my comment to this one. We are both yellow-converts, it appears. My yellow is mainly a fabric from the Birds and Berries collection by Lauren and Jessi Jung for Moda. I drooled over that fabric for ages before finally deciding to buy some, and came up with a good excuse for needing it (new quilt for the master bedroom), only to find out that my favorite print (an aqua one, with flowers, and birds, and critters and curly leaves) was sold out everywhere! So I bought the yellow version, and the plum, and while I didn't love it straight away (it was second choice, after all), it grew on me and I really love it now. And I was totally happy to be able to buy six yards from a lady who is destashing at a really good price last week, so now I can (almost) do my backing in sunshiny yellow! I've been looking at your Farmer's Wife quilt a lot to help me pick a palette and figure out how to use it in all the individual blocks, because I really love that quilt and how it looks like a whole and not (like some samplers) just a bunch of different blocks thrown together.

Picking a favourite colour is like picking a favourite child - impossible! I love them all equally and randomly depending on my mood. however looking at my recent fabric purchases it is clear that Aqua, pink and yellow dominate the majority of my shelves lol.
