it's the making, not the having

I've said that many times.  I need to make things more than I need to have things.  This need, however, has left me with pretty little things that are now looking for good homes.  So I've been thinking of selling them.

But here's the thing ... pricing can be tricky.  For example, I asked a few sewy friends for their opinion on what to price a particular thing.  One said $15 and the other said $68!  LOL!  So instead of guessing the market value - and to give everyone a chance instead of "first come, first served" - I thought it might be fun to have an auction.  I'm going to list each item separately and you can bid via comments on each post.  Here's a sneak preview of a few items I'm thinking of listing ... although I may panic and change my mind at the last minute on one or two of them.  ;)

Sound like fun?  Stay tuned ...

Just to play Devil's Advocate here for a moment...(don't get me wrong, I would love to win any of the things you decide to auction...) aren't you moving into a new house soon that will need some decorating? There is at least one thing pictured above that could find a wonderful home on one of your new walls. Don't be too hasty!

Would it be possible to have the instructions on how to make the item as well?

I think the auction idea is a great one. So many times crafters have no idea what something is worth to someone else and we just don't have any idea what to charge. This way, you will be shocked, I'm sure,
at what your beautiful handiwork is worth to someone else. Fun fun!

Lovely idea! I wouldn't mind one of your needle books, or the pretty frame with flowers, just the thing for my hall. Although I do have the same problem you do: I make a pretty thing first, and then wonder what to do with it... Sometimes I give things away, but then I wonder if people who don't sew and knit themselves really appreciate what they're getting. Sure, for some of them the value is even higher because they can't imagine ever making a thing like that themselves, but others just don't see the time, effort and love put into each project... I once got a beautiful hand knit sweater (with cables!) from a goodwill store...

When I saw this I got so excited because I have bought your Stitch book and done a couple of projects and just love the simplicity of your work but also the elegance that it brings. I loved taking the tu tu out of it's element and using it alone. A classy look. Yea!! so excited!!

All are just beautiful. It's not easy to put a price on handmade things, sometimes I thing people who don't sew donĀ“t appreciate what they buy.
