spring fabric giveaway

Ah, Spring!  The days are noticeably longer now and the sunshine makes such a difference, doesn't it?

So does pretty new fabric in Spring-inspired colours.

Simply Sweet Fabrics has done it again with these gorgeous new Atsuko Matsuyama fabrics.  I love love love this print with bouquets spilling out of hat boxes and little love letters.

And these ... darling little wreaths.

I decided to make a simple bag to show off the hat box print to it's best advantage.  Three fabrics (plus lining), a bit of lace and a label.  Done, done and done!

I made this bag for my daughter's music books, but instead of walking the 10 steps from my sewing room to the piano to actually measure a book, I just used a craft book that was within arm's reach to make my template.  Unfortunately, this bag ended up just a smidgen too narrow for said music books.  Guess I'll have to keep this pink one for myself and make her another one.  It's just as well.  She prefers the blue.

Simply Sweet Fabrics would like to give one of you ALL SIX of these Atsuko Matsuyama fat quarters (these and these).  To enter for a chance to win, leave me a comment describing your most favourite/successful craft project ever.  This giveaway closes Sunday April 13th and I'll announce the winner shortly after.  Happy Spring!

So far I would have to say pillow making. I've been quilting up a storm but making pillows seem to be a breeze. Thanks! I love the fabrics and your tote is classy and beautiful!

Such pretty fabric. My favorite project - two white French hand sewing dresses for my then little girls. The dresses were very feminine looking, soft, and comfortable to wear. A very important requirement for their clothing. The dresses were a lot of work, but both girls wore them for a couple of years. The dresses are hanging in my closet - perhaps to be remade into baptismal garments for future grandbabies, Or not..

I'd have to say my grown daughter's Renaissance Festival dress- after not sewing for many many years, she asked me to make her one. I did; the fever reinfected me, and now I'm knitting, sewing, and quilting!

There have been so many wonderful craft projects through the years that I am proud of... a dollhouse for my little sister, wreaths for my Mom, ties for my father, dolls for my daughter, a wookie costume for my son (big challenge working with fake fur), tiny felt animal Christmas ornaments, many bags and purses, backpacks for my grandchildren and lots of clothes, super hero capes, crowns and toys...recently I made a stuffed polar fleece polka dot hen for my granddaughter which she loves. I am currently into refashioning so I am particularly proud of a $2 thrift shop sweater that I sewed lots of different color and shapes of buttons down the placket and around the neck.

My most successful craft project ever was a quilted tote bag I made for a swap partner in Canada. I used 3 different online tutorials to put together a very unique, very beautiful bag. My partner was so surprised and happy when she received her package! I would love to make one for myself someday...if I can remember the steps!

My favorite craft was the quilt I made for my nephew when he was born. It was a simple pattern, but I loved the colors and I backed it with flannel. My sister cried when she opened it up the day they brought him home.

There was a starry sort of Christmas quilt in a magazine. For a bridal shower, I had everyone sign a square of fabric and write well wishes on it. I took the pattern with some silvery blue and mauve colors and put it together for the bride to be. It was even pictured in the send in section of the magazine that the pattern came from. And most importantly, the bride loved it!

And, thank you for posting about the fabric. For the first time in a few years, I feel like running out and purchasing some! Perhaps the quilting bug is about to strike me again!

Swoon! This Simply Sweet fabric is so sweet and beautiful. And I love how you showcased it in the book bag. My favorite project ever was a watercolor quilt that I made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our church. The quilt spent about three months on my design wall as I arranged and rearranged the two inch squares and the text (My cats did some frequent rearranging along the lower part of the quilt too). It now hangs in the church sanctuary. Thanks for sharing your project and for this delightful giveaway.

I just love the way you use your fabrics - so fresh, so inspirational! One of my favourite projects was a bag I made for my daughter in law. The fabrics were wonderful and it just came out so well. I'm delighted to say she loves it too!
Keep up your good and wonderful work!

My most successful project was a pair of quilts I made for my grandson and granddaughter made out of thrifted shirts and sheets. I used the Disappearing Nine Patch pattern and backed them with fleece. They are much loved and are dragged around the house whilst the children are at play. My grandson even told me recently that his mum came into his bedroom one evening to 'steal' it so she could wrap herself in it to watch TV! Sounds like I need to make another one.

My favorite craft project I've ever done was a sweet sling purse for a crafter friend on her birthday. It was my first time sewing a purse. I was awake almost throughout the night to finish it. She adored it so much! Additional surprise was, on that day she launched her own crocheting business after a few years thinking about it. I was sooo happy for her too it paid back all my sleepiness that day :D

I have many really great projects that I have made that I am very proud of... but the one that was most appreciated by my nieces (the recipients) were these huge monogram pillows that I made from scratch for all of them for Christmas a few years back!! They even took them to College and University!! My heart swelled!!

I think my most favorite AND successful crafts I've made are needle books. I made my first one several years ago and I have used it so much it looks yucky though the construction has held up amazingly well. I've made several since then for gifts and all the people I've made them for love them as much as I do. Recently I've been incorporating ideas from Amy at NanaCompany like adding a piece of a measuring tape, extra pages for different types of needles, and jazzing them up with special buttons and homemade patches. I am currently trying to design a new one for myself but I have so many ideas I am having trouble narrowing them down to a useable few.

Thanks for the giveaway - the fabrics are so delicious!

My favorite craft project was a red, blue, yellow and white sailboat quilt I made for my son's bed. It was the first quilt I ever made and was hardly perfect, but I finished it! Those fabrics are gorgeous, thanks for the opportunity to win.

Does a dress count as a craft project? If it does, then my recently sewn dress is it! I was overwhelmed by the feedbacks that I received! If not, then the next successful one is a zipper pouch that I made! It was my first time working with patchwork and piecing the fabric together and I just loved the result!

My favorite craft project was a Christmas ornament that I made on a whim while in college - oh too many years ago. It was a tiny felt mouse sleeping in a walnut shell bed with a tiny pillow and blanket suspended by a macrame cord. I named him 'Chester' and he makes an appearance on our Christmas tree every year.
Thank your for the chance to win such sweet fabric. It certainly feels like Spring.

My favourite and most successful project was a wall hanging quilt I made for a couple of friends YEARS ago. I loved it so much I really didn't want to give it away. But I love seeing it when I visit them. It is a quilt pattern called A Cat For All Seasons, designed by Patrick Lose (in his first quilting book I think).

My most favorite craft project is usually the one I am currently working on! Lately I've been working on a crazy quilt square (yes, just one, I'm new to CQ) with beautiful embroidery and fancy embellishments. It is for my mom's 91st birthday. I adore the fabric in your post and the lovely bookcase you made.

My favorite right now is the king -sized Single girl quilt that I made for my bed. Lovely to sleep under one of my own quilts.
My most favorite project was an original character doll representing Mr,. Micawber from Dickens that was a gift for a friend. It was displayed along with other original art dolls at our nationally famous art gallery for a month.

Those fabrics are so sweet! Very excited for the chance to win!

I'd have to say, my biggest success was making an heirloom christening gown for my infant niece & goddaughter. It was three and a half feet long, eyelet lace, tiny pin tucks, insertion laces and entrdeux. I sewed around the clock for four days straight! And was finishing sewing the tiny pearl buttons on the way to the church! She was so pretty and everyone loved the gown. It was the first time something came out exactly as I had imagined it! I was pleased!
Love the bag! And love the pretty spring fabric!!!

My favourite craft project is one I finally finished recently, a quilt for my mum. It took me over a year to finish but it was the first time I'd done hand quilting and I did decorative blanket stitch and even got the kids involved creating hearts that they decorated with fabric pens and I sewed on for them. And I manage to finish it just in time for my mum to use it while re-cooperating from an operation. Everytime I see it in pride of place in my mums living room it makes me smile.

My most successful project is the one I made for a dear friend's first child. My fav books as I learned to read were the Dick and Jane series. So I made a baby quilt out of the Dick and Jane fabrics, and quilted it with apples, as the mom is a teacher. When she opened my gift at her baby shower, she cried - her mother cried and her grandmother - AND her husband! Unbeknown to me, this series is a favorite of all of them too, and they wanted something special for the nursery. Warm hearts all around!!

My most successful sewing project has to be my completely hand-stitched rose quilt. A few years ago I learned the old Appalachian way of stitching called the "promise stitch". It's an art and tradition that has been handed down for centuries. It involves all hand sewing, no machine allowed, no pins allowed, no marking seams, you have to eyeball your seams, no cotton or polyester batting - you use thin flannel and many more interesting little facts. I decided to make a rose quilt as my very first promise stitching quilt, so I collected every fabric I could find with roses on it. It was a scrappy quilt so I collected a lot of fabrics lol. In the center of each block, I embroidered something little...different flowers and insects and letters. The quilt turned out beautifully and I ended up giving it to my mom who lives in Scotland as a promise that I will always love her no matter how many miles separate us :-)

One time I made an awesome, wooden Valentine wreath that looked like the Conversation hearts. I was so proud because I'm really bad at painting. Then we moved and it got smashed when our moving truck hit a deer. Feel sorry for me and send me some beautiful fabric :)

My most favorite, successful craft ever would have to be my husbands Christmas stocking that I made for him over 20 years ago. I subscribed to a counted cross stitch magazine that had a gorgeous pattern for a music room Christmas stocking. I started it in the fall of 1990, planning to surprise him! Well, I didn't finish it until 9 months later! But it is absolutely gorgeous and he loves it. Later when I made my daughter and myself quilted stockings, she told by husband that maybe one day "mom would make you a nice stocking too." We laugh about it all the time!
