spring fabric giveaway

Ah, Spring!  The days are noticeably longer now and the sunshine makes such a difference, doesn't it?

So does pretty new fabric in Spring-inspired colours.

Simply Sweet Fabrics has done it again with these gorgeous new Atsuko Matsuyama fabrics.  I love love love this print with bouquets spilling out of hat boxes and little love letters.

And these ... darling little wreaths.

I decided to make a simple bag to show off the hat box print to it's best advantage.  Three fabrics (plus lining), a bit of lace and a label.  Done, done and done!

I made this bag for my daughter's music books, but instead of walking the 10 steps from my sewing room to the piano to actually measure a book, I just used a craft book that was within arm's reach to make my template.  Unfortunately, this bag ended up just a smidgen too narrow for said music books.  Guess I'll have to keep this pink one for myself and make her another one.  It's just as well.  She prefers the blue.

Simply Sweet Fabrics would like to give one of you ALL SIX of these Atsuko Matsuyama fat quarters (these and these).  To enter for a chance to win, leave me a comment describing your most favourite/successful craft project ever.  This giveaway closes Sunday April 13th and I'll announce the winner shortly after.  Happy Spring!

My favorite all time craft is a Martha Pullen Christening Gown I made for my imaginary grand baby. So pretty and the hardest dress I have ever done. Thanks for the fabric give away!

My favorite craft item is the Advent calendar I made out of felt 34 years ago....my boys took turns putting on the ornaments every morning, and now the grandchildren are carrying on that tradition!
Gorgeous fabrics!

But my favorite of all time may be the same as Jill's....an Advent Calendar made from felt with a Vogue Pattern. Now my grandsons enjoy it, too!

My most successful project was a dining room set for my mother I sewed in college. It has 12 chair covers, a tablecloth, and a coordinating table runner. My father "commissioned" the chair covers for my mother's birthday present. The tablecloth and runner were my artistic contributions. Mom's birthday is in November. I did the sewing in August while my family was away on vacation. I finished the project the night before they returned. I wrapped it up and hid the package until I came home for Thanksgiving. When she first opened the package she didn't know what it was. However, when she realized what it was her reaction was awesome! These spring fabrics are just charming. Thanks for the chance to enter!

I would say it the time I made 13 small matryoshka dolls (pattern from Retromama) for my quilting peeps. I match the hair and eye color for each person, and picked fabrics unique for each person. I subsequently gave each person their "mini-me" at one of our quilt retreats.

my favorite sewing project was a quilt i made for my cousin titled cotton candy by robert kaufman. it came out so pretty in 1930s fabrics and 2" squares around the border -- i wanted to keep it safe with me cuz i knew it would be loved, but wrapped it up for her anyway. she was not as enthusiastic to receive it as i thought she'd be, but i got it done. i had promised to make her a quilt. I'm still trying to get one made for myself! love the fabrics -- so sweet and special!

Being new to quilting, I had no idea that linen gauze is considered challenging to work with. I proceeded to make a lap quilt with this fabric and then hand stitched it in a kind of faux sashiko pattern. This quilt is still my favorite - I curl up under it every night on the sofa.

thank you for the great giveaway! I love these fabrics! Many years ago I made the cutest outfits for my sons- one-piece overalls with appliques of hot air balloons on the front. Now my 1-year old grandson is almost big enough to fit into the smaller size (don't know why I kept it but I did, the larger one got passed on). I also had the best time making reversible aprons for my granddaughters - one with pandas/cupcakes, and the other with ice cream/cupcakes. They (now 4 and almmost 7) also love to choose fabrics to make little tote bags with. I let them sit on my lap at the sewing machine and they (and I) have a grand time.

My most successful and favourite project is the quilt I made for my 5 year old granddaughter. It has large appliqued flowers in bright colours and a scalloped edge. I love the way it looks and so does my granddaughter. I really enjoy seeing it on her bed.

My favorite, and most useful, craft projects ever must be the sets of baby bibs and burp cloths I make every few weeks for all the sweet little babies being born to my daughters and other family friends.

I recently made a fabric basket with embroidery on it. That is probably my favorite.

My most successful sewing project was a pillow I made with a doll on it for a birthday present. The body was sewn onto the front but the arms and legs moved freely from the body. She loved it!

The project that gets used the most is the ironing board cover I made. I used the old grungy one as the pattern and used up some of the home dec fabric I can't help buying all the time.

Actually it is the pillows I just finished a few weeks ago that is on my blog.

Beautiful giveaway!

I made a heart-shaped needlework pillow and it won Best of Show in its category at the Michigan State Fair. This giveaway has very sweet fabrics.

My favorite item I've made lately is a project folder I made for my artist daughter for Christmas, modifying a This n That pattern. It was sew fun using the modern, bold fabric she chose and then doing my custom FMQ. Now I'm making a briefcase to match.

My most favourite project was a doll that I sewed for my daughter when she was little. The doll's face was cross-stitched. The clothes were Victorian, with an eyelet pinafore. I just loved the way she turned out.

My most successful project so far is an applique quilt I made that is a tree of life. I think it was my best needleturn ever and it hangs in my livingroom. I love those prints and the closure on your bag! How clever a way to keep your bag closed. Thanks for the inspiration!

My most successful project was table toppers I made in memory of my parents. Using one of Lori Holt's patterns and using her Bake Sale Fabric Line I made House Blocks with Log Cabin Blocks on the front. On the back I placed a smaller version of the Log Cabin Block with their honeymoon picture as the centre square. I made enough to gift to all the immediate family. It was a labour of love and brings tears to our eyes when we look at them. We will always miss them especially when we think of the times around the table - their hospitality and love of the Lord; it was the heart of their Home.

I loooooooove these fabrics and I am always bkown away when I look at the items you make, They are always gorgeous! The one item I have made that I am most proud of would have to be the quilt I made when I was 14 years old. It is a Sunbonnet Sue pattern done in green and brown gingham. All hand sewn! Not the prettiest quilt in the world but I wouldn't take anything for it!

Oh, I really don't known there have been so many craft projects over the years. I guess, right now, my favorite is making snap bags for my friends--they love them! Thanks for the chance, the fabric is beautiful.

Hummm...either my first quilt or my first knitted thing...both successful firsts that gave me the confidence to continue.
April 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNota
I think my most successful was a quilt with tons of appliqued hearts that was all hand quilted. One of my favorites for sure, but everyone who sees it loves it and wants one, and my daughter got married in front of it.

I think my favorite projects were a little quilted vest for my son's 3rd birthday "cowboy" party. He loved all things cowboy and i just couldn't find the perfect vest...so I made it. He looked so cute. I also made a tea cozy that I just love to look at. : )
Atsuko Matsuyama fabric is so lovely! Looking forward to seeing more of your projects with it!

My bestest craft project ever? Oh my... I'm pretty pleased with the 4 afghans I crocheted last winter (and have been snuggling under all this winter!)

It was a wall hanging I made for my daughter Lucía.
I wanted to learn how to paper piece and that was the opportunity.

Everybody like the final result and - the most important - Lucía loves it :)

Best recent craft project -- a purse for my niece. It was supposed to be for Christmas, but it was late. However the colours are springy -- so it's perfect for right now (well, if spring would actually arrive). And it's in the mail. Done! Thanks for the chance to win those really lovely fabrics.

I love, love, love the bag. Did you use linen on the bottom?
I have been crafting for 45 yrs. so there are a ton of projects I love. I just finsihed a pin cushion with a hexie on it and some darling lace that I am crushiing on for the moment, until I finish my little vintage easter baskets I'm working on.

That bag is lovely! I may have to make one myself!

I love a little case on a long strap I made for my phone. It is pink and pretty with suffolk puffs on the front. I wear it across my body like a messenger bag whenever I go for a walk and I don't have any pockets!
April 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle
The fabrics are beautiful. Thank you for the giveaway. My favorite project was making the twin size quilts for my grandsons. They helped me by picking out the fabrics and the quilt block patterns.
April 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoyce Carter
My favorite? Although I enjoy and have made many detailed embroidered christening gowns for several years, I think my favorite is the hexagon quilt you have inspired me to make - this one for myself, finally.
April 7, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJulia
I would have to say my most favorite craft project to date is the Quilt of Valour that I just finished last week. I am so happy with how it turned out! Thank you for the chance to win these gorgeous fabrics.

Wow, what a request with a beautiful reward! I think my wedding dress from linen with a hardanger yoke, bodice, sleeve edging and skirt hem would be my most successful---mostly because I finished it! Connected to that was our daughter's hardanger baptism gown--same linen.

The very first quilted bag I ever made (about 1978) had a patchwork block on one side and an applique block on the other. I hand quilted it even. :) It lasted for years and I loved it to death. :)

The project that ranks as my favorite and most successful is the queen sized quilt I hand quilted for my mum's 80th birthday. Every stitch was a stitch of love and memory. It is going to be hard to top.

So many....but I still smile to think of the bridesmaid dresses my daughter did not want anymore. SEW I cut them up and made princess dresses for our Granddaughter Clare. She was OVER the moon and I loved that the sweet memories would continue!!!

That's a tough question. My most favorite recent project is a pillow top I made from scraps in a similar style to one you featured. It's addicting. I want to make more of them.
Lovely, lovely fabrics.
